GVM and actual weight are not the same thing
GVM is the maximum legal mass the vehicle is designed to operate at when loaded. It does not tell us exactly what the vehicle weighs at pickup. A trayback, service body, tipper or van carrying tools and stock may be significantly heavier than an empty example of the same model.
Tell us what is still in the vehicle
For work vehicles, the load can matter as much as the vehicle itself. Toolboxes, generators, compressors, spare parts, building materials or other stock affect the actual transported weight and how that weight is distributed. Do not assume a vehicle is suitable just because the badge or GVM is within a familiar range.
Dimensions and body type matter
Wheelbase, overall length, width, height, rear overhang and fitted equipment all affect transport suitability. A service body, tray, canopy, ladder rack or other modification may change the loading position compared with a standard cab-chassis vehicle.
Breakdowns and planned business movements are different jobs
A roadside breakdown may need faster dispatch and clear information about steering, brakes and safe pickup access. A planned workshop or fleet transfer can usually be scheduled around business opening hours, release instructions and receiving contacts.
A commercial vehicle booking checklist
For a faster assessment, send the registration or make/model, GVM, whether the vehicle is currently loaded, approximate actual weight if known, body type, overall dimensions, pickup and destination, and whether it rolls, steers and brakes. Photos of the vehicle from the side and rear are particularly useful for traybacks, service bodies, tippers, vans with roof equipment and modified work vehicles.
Do not forget tools, stock and fitted equipment
Commercial vehicles are often quoted incorrectly when the vehicle is described as though it were empty. Fixed toolboxes, service bodies, generators, tanks, ladder racks, compressors and stock all matter. If the vehicle can be safely unloaded before transport, tell us; if it must travel loaded, describe the load accurately so suitability can be checked before dispatch.
